I didn't fight the law ....

So I've been putting off going to the DMV for something in the neighborhood of forever. But after spending litterally all afternoon there today, I can happily say - I'm legal again :)

I put it off because I was worried I wouldn't pass the stupid written test (I have a tendancy to gloss over things in the book that don't pertain to me - like how many hours it takes for an alcoholic beverage to wear off, or how much your child has to weigh before it's ok to let them ride without their car seat. Since I don't drink at all and don't have any kids, I find it hard to retain information like that and tend to get those questions wrong on the written tests (plus, who really likes taking tests of any sort anyway? the longer you can put it off the better, I always say, lol). But it was something that really had to be done before we move since I'm supposed to be doing part/all/some amount of the driving (my mother claims she can do some, but we'll see how that works out).

But anyway - it's done now. I passed (by some total miracle I actually didn't miss a single question!!) .. HALLELUJAH :)

True, I will still have to go to the DMV in WV to get legal there - but I'm not worried, the DMV there is so much nicer and faster. I must say though, I'm shocked that things here in CA are still running on a paper system. Everything temporary here in CA is just this stupid little peice of paper that I honestly could have printed up on the computer myself. In WV, you walk on in, prove up who you are, pay your money, take the test (if that's what you're there for) and then walk out with a real card (permit/license/ID - whatever you came in for). CA seems kind of backward to me, by comparrison - but I guess with the volume they must do here that it would cost BAZILLIONS to run it the same way they do in WV.

So anyway, we're planning on leaving next weekend, I will blog again before we go, even if I have nothing to say other than TTYL :)

I'm sure it would actually cost less to do such a large amount of stuff by computer rather than on paper... o_O

Pacian - yeah, I'm sure it would cost less to process things by computer, I just meant the initial investment for the equipment (the apparatus for making the instant cards, and the computerized test taking stations they have in WV) would probably be astronomical here in CA.

I don't have any way of knowing, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are more DMV offices here in Orange County alone than there are in all of WV.

Seeing as there were 1,808,344 people in WV in 2000 (it's probably gone down since then) and 3,098,121 in the OC in 2007, there probably are more DMV's here. at least there should be. Although, it seemed the other day that they all showed up at the Fullerton DMV at the same time, lol.

TOM - Indeed (with raised eyebrow, and in my best Teal'c voice, LOL).
