birthday over, back to x-mas

La Yen sent me a holiday friendship e-mail meme thing, which I've decided to put on here instead of mailing out to everyone (go ahead, call me lazy).

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Paper.

2. Real tree or Artificial? It depends, this year it's a tiny fake pre-lit thing.

3.When do you put up the tree? When I get to it, LOL. When I was a kid we usually did the decorating right after Thanksgiving – and in WV we were usually that prompt (since you want to get the outside done before it snows – the neighborhood usually started doing their outsides right after Halloween!) – but some years stuff comes up.

4. When do you take down the tree? Sometimes we take it down right after New Year’s sometimes it waits until after Epiphany (can you tell my mom was raised Anglican, LOL?). But one year I think it might have been even later than that.

5. Do you like eggnog? I do – but I don’t love it. Sort of a take it or leave it thing with me.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? Gosh – that’s hard – but probably my pink Huffy bike.

7. Do you have a nativity scene? No, when I was a kid we had a little porcelain set that sat on the buffet, but I hate Nativity scenes (and any terribly Christ-centered decorations) since we all know Jesus was not born on DEC. 25th. It’s a pagan winter celebration (like Easter is actually a pagan Spring celebration) and I’m fine with that – in fact I embrace it. Give me Santa, snowflakes, trees, holly, and stockings – but keep the baby Jesus and his manger. No offense to anyone .. and don’t write me hate mail about Jesus being the reason for the season! He’s not .. it’s winter everywhere in the Northern Hemisphere for Christians and non-Christians alike!

8. Hardest person to buy for? Everyone – I obsess over ever gift I give .. I pick them out quickly (going on my instinct of what they’d like) – then I worry I got them something stupid that they’ll absolutely hate. What can I say? I’m mental ;P

9. Easiest person to buy for? Me!

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Both.

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? I don’t think I’ve ever really hated anything I’ve gotten. And I certainly don’t remember any particularly bad gift.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Sometime I can’t stand to watch the whole thing yet again, but it just isn’t Christmas without seeing at least parts of It’s a Wonderful Life, and A Christmas Story (Ralphie, you’ll shoot your eye out!)

13. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Nope.

14. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Candy canes.

15. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Clear! I don’t know why, but I only like clear lights.

16. Favorite Christmas song? Anything by Bing Crosby or Perry Como – oh, and Coventry Carol (love that!! - even though it's all about baby Jesus and I just spewed forth a diatribe about getting baby Jesus out of Christmas, LOL).

17. Travel at Christmas or stay home? At home with the folks.

18. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Probably not.

19. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Family Presents on Christmas Eve – Santa presents on Christmas morning.

20. Most annoying thing about this time of year? The idea that this is the time of year to be charitable. People are hungry and homeless ALL year long - but for some reason there’s a Santa with a red bucket outside every store, making me feel guilty, only once a year.

21. Favorite ornament theme or color? Snowflakes.

22. Favorite for Christmas dinner? Actually last year’s Barefoot Contessa inspired standing Rib Roast is my favorite – but this year we’re having the traditional/boring ham.

23. What do you want for Christmas this year? A magic wand to transport everything to WV in one fell swoop.

24. Who is most likely to respond to this? No one – or maybe Yen, since she started this, LOL

25. Who is least likely to respond to this? The opposite of no one.
