Don't Count Your Chickens ....

before they hatch!

The ambulance just left with my mother ... she's only been home a week! sad

She's feeling generally miserable and run down - and on top of that she's slightly dehydrated, nauseated, and as of late last night she feels the beginnings of a bladder infection again. I'm not sure if it's that she didn't get completely fixed last time she was in the hospital, or if it's just that this is the way it's going to go from now on.

She's officially in kidney failure now - don't know if I mentioned that or not - she's not on dialysis or anything yet (you can go a very long time, they say, at 50% kidney function - which is her current best), but at some point she will be - things to look forward to cry

In the hospital they started giving her Procrit (sp?) because her kidney failure is giving her anemia, but she's been off of it a week now, and I suspect that's contributed tremendously to how awful she's feeling today. Apparently, they can write her a prescription and she can give herself the shot, or she can come in to the doctor's office and they can give her the shot. If she does it herself it's not covered by Medicare - if she goes into the office, it is. Needless to say, we're picking the office option (that stuff is expensive), but they didn't have an appointment until next Monday, so 'no Procrit for you'!

Oh well, I'll have to wait and see what they do for/to her - I doubt they will keep her this time, it's early in the day, but you never know.

Kayt, I hope everything is ok by tomorrow. You're in my thoughts. I wish I had more productive/comforting/generally better to say, these things are tricky. Since I don't have anything more productive/comforting/generally better to say (and "get well soon" just doesn't seem enough at this point), I've come up with a plan. Tomorrow, if your mom's not well, you just march your ass down to that hospital and tell that piece of shit doctor that your friend has a Haitian Voodoo priestess in Zaire who can do a better job than this, and if we have to fly Mom out there, well...we'll be paying extra for the "no loose ends" option on whatever voodoo she does so well.

I really hope everything is fine by tomorrow. Fingers crossed, rosary in hand, carwash with wax and detail. You and your family are in my thoughts, no matter how bizarre they may be.

This is why you're my BFF :)

Thank you so much for the support/encouragement .. and for the good idea ;) I could use a good Voodoo Priestess (and not just for this - I'm sure they're invaluable for most everything).

Everything is ok now - she came home yesterday (early evening), and according to her - this particular ER doc was the best she'd ever run into :)
